Christmas is a coming.

Hello. Back from my walk, turned the corner just past the pub, and there's a nice surprise, our Christmas tree is lit up on the village green. The lights have been a bit sparse over the last few years, it looks like they have been splashing out on some new ones. Really lovely. These are the first ones I have seen, it won't be long before they start appearing on the front of people's houses. I like the lights, makes everywhere look cheerful.
We stuffed ourselves with nosh this morning at Crafty Club, two of our members are leaving the area and moving to pastures new. We had a little farewell party to wish them bon voyage. One is going up north back to her roots, and the other is leaving this country for a new life in Sweden. Friends come and friends go, that's how it is, people move on. We will miss them.

Zipppeeee is evolving, one idea leads to another. What starts as a simple idea seems to take on a life of it's own. It's leaning more towards a Folksy picture, French knots added to the flowers look nice. I will crack on with it tomorrow.

Wednesday is a dentist appointment for a check up, and a visit to the vet for Heidi's tablets. I can do both at the same time, save making another journey.

Wind down time, I am finding I am going to bed a bit earlier. Off to watch some vids on yoootooob. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  6. I love the lights and love that you did not gripe about it. Some people do go on about the lights of Christmas and don't like the waste.

    1. I like to look at other people's lights, they can do what they like to their own homes, and pay for the electricity. I won't be putting any up though.

  7. I love seeing Christmas lights!.I put my tree and lights up on December 1st cause thats the date my Dad died 3 years ago.Although, its a really sad day for us all,I know he would prefer us to be trimming the house up,wearing our Christmas jumpers and playing Christmas music. He would want it being made into a happy day cause he loved Christmas lights. So thats what im going to do,Debi,xx

  8. The Christmas tree at the outlet mall is lit already! I find it a bit early for that! Oh goodness....it's the week of Thanksgiving in the USA....wait for it! ;.} I miss the lights when they are gone. Especially when Phil takes the lights off our rhododendron bush...then I miss my house...well not really. But on foggy nights I almost did a couple times, in the dark after work. Need to trim the bush so all the lights will fit. Take care!

  9. The basic idea of Christmas is the gathering of the family and the celebration of Christ's birth. It is not necessary that this beautiful story is constantly commercialized. But, since most people do not think so, this consumer fever is constantly repeated.
So, we can decide what is the real purpose and message of Christmas for ourselves. Spending money, or spreading Love and Peace.
Great text, dear Ilona, as always. Energetic and wise.
It is early, but i wish everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Bless you all! :-)

  10. Christmas is arriving slowly here too.The lights at night and Carols on the radio are what I enjoy.I haven't had a busy Christmas for several years now,but I still feel there's a lot to get & clean. Why ? I feel I need to.I'm making 3 wreaths myself this year which will be more personal and cheap. Also a fruit & nut box. This year I am more conscious of my spending than ever thanl<s to you Ilona x

    1. Flis - I agree; the carols and lights are lovely but we don't have a 'busy' Christmas either by choice. What I do do is have a good clean between Christmas and New Year to start the year afresh: I like the new year, start off with new plans and hopes etc. Amanda

  12. Somebody in my parents’ village has had for some days now flashing lights around their window, a lit tree (also flashing) and two enormous inflatable Father Christmases by the front door. I say two but one has deflated and has puddled on the gravel. I said to my friend that I bet the people opposite aren’t too happy. Natalie

  13. Thank you. I too find that Christmas has lost its real meaning and is all about commercialism and consumerism. I have opted out of receiving gifts from now on. I have enough "things" as do most people and am trying to get rid of at least one thing each day. I will still be giving some presents, I just don't want to receive any. Mrsmisery!

  14. My Christmas is always busy cause all my Family come to my house!!.They have invited us to theirs before but Hubby likes to stay at home,so they come to mine. But i prep everything the day before so that i can join in with the fun and have a few Bailys,lol...Well we can get through a few bottles of it between us all...Mind you,its only the Aldi one, much cheaper than the branded one and doesnt taste any different!,lol.Im more relaxed about it all this year for some reason..Maybe because of this frugal way of living,Ive saved alot more so will be able to spend it on a few more treats for us all.And even got my Mystery Trip weekend, with my Daughter on the 16th/17th Dec to look forward to!..Lol,it sounds mad but i love the fact that we havent got a clue where were going!!,Debi,xx

  15. That's a lovely tree Ilona. Christmases come and go, I don't hate Christmas but most it doesn't apply to me as I don't have family. I usually spend Christmas Day with friends and this is much appreciated, but I find the period between Boxing Day and New Year a bit draggy, understandably most of my friends are busy with family stuff and I'm far more aware of being on my own than I am at other times of year. I do some volunteering, although shifts aren't always available. I might do some decorating this year, anything to pass the time!! Years ago the holiday was shorter, most people went back to work between the two festivals, whereas now it's a two week + manic family/retail/partyfest. I am staggered at the amount of money people spend on it nowadays, getting into debt for a one day event is just nuts imo.
